It’s true. Missionaries need more than your money. While, money is vital to the ministry of a missionary, and without it, we cannot do what God has called us to do, it is not everything. We also need people who are truly invested in what we are doing and how we are doing it. We need people who link arms with us, and desire to see the kingdom grow in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We need cheerleaders, for the days which are sure to come when we are exhausted, overwhelmed, and homesick, and for the days when God moves in big, extraordinary ways, and for the in-between days as well. Basically, we need friends and friendship – a village. We need the Church to be heavily invested and connected with us and our desire to serve in Addis.
While, all of this is true, it is also tricky. We are pushing for clarity and transparency in our journey, because we do not believe that missions should be a mystery. Having said that, we are just getting started. We have not even hit the ground in Addis, yet. Our visions are just dreams and hopes. We have no success rate or glamorous stories or drama – oh, how people love drama. All we have is this God-sized dream and call, and a knowing that we are supposed to be in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We desperately need supporters to take an active role, and to pour out grace on us – to understand that God works outside of the box, and to take a chance, for the Kingdom, on our family.
We are taking a risk, by selling almost everything we own, uprooting our family, and moving to Ethiopia, because we know that Jesus is worth the risk. When we choose to follow the person and life of Jesus, we agree to surrender the plans we had for our life in exchange for His plans. For us, this means a massive amount of personal risk. But really, what risk is there when God is on our side? We are asking you to take a risk as well by supporting our family and becoming invested in our ministry.
And we know that is a big ask.
Before taking a risk, most people want to count the cost, and this is biblical. (Luke 14:28) So to assist in this, we are opening this up to your questions. Go ahead ask anything – about us, our family, our ministry. We will do our best to respond graciously and transparently. In order to invest in us, and that is what we are asking you to do, you need to know us.
